Presents: Plein Air Painting with Paul

We are happy to exhibit the work of Paul Moscatt and his en plein air landscape class.  This includes work from landscape sesssions held in Baltimore and some works by his artist students outside of the area.  Different styles and motifs present in this show attest to Paul’s philosophy of teaching to and respecting the student’s personal and natural process.

The group combines artists of varying age and art experience.  The unfying principle of the class is the process of en plein air painting – painting outdoors and on the spot perceptual painting.  Each student submits the work to a performance which has its own parameters subject to the variances of weather and light, a tussle and perhaps a romance with nature and a challenge to oneself.  The results many times are not always controlled but in this gap of the unexpected, improvisational and the poignant can occur.

The participating artists are: Lissa Abrams, Lois Borgnenicht, Pat Dillon, Mark Johnson, LieAnne Navarro, Carlene Bausch Moscatt, Paul Moscatt and Marina Windsor.

The exhibition runs from November 20th to December 17th 2011…

Love Triangle: Poetry by Jenny Keith, Barrett Warner, and Leslie F. Miller

These three Baltimore poets are still bringing sexy—and dangerous—back to poetry after years of performing live and in private trysts.  Jenny Keith’s writing has appeared in City Paper, The Pearl, Sewanee Theological Review, and The Nebraska Review. She just completed a novel, which she will be publishing online in October. Barrett Warner’s story, “Get Away,” was the runner-up in the 2011 F. Scott Fitzgerald fiction prize. His reading will include some love poems he wrote to Leslie 30 years ago. Leslie Miller is the author of Let me Eat Cake (Simon & Schuster, 2009). Michael Fallon with Special Guests Dorit Carroll and William Rivera

Michael Fallon reads from his latest book along with special guests poets Doritt Caroll and William Rivera. Fallon is a poet and essayist who has long endured the sorrows and joys of living in his native Baltimore and is the author of two other books of poetry; A History of the Color Black (Dophin-Moon Press, 1991), and Since You Have No Body (2011), winner of the Plan B Press Poetry Chapbook Competition and. His new book, The Great Before and After, is a comic inquiry into how we all got here in the first place, what we might be doing here, and what might happen when and if all the lights go out.  Doritt Caroll is a native of Washington DC, and earns her living as an attorney.  Her book In Caves was published by BrickHouse Books in 2010 and was recently the subject of an interview with Jane Crown on Poetry Radio. New Orleans-born W.M. Rivera’s recent book Buried in the Mind’s Backyard (Brickhouse Books 2011) is a collection of tautly disciplined, passionate, virile poems. Grace Cavalieri described it as ”intelligently delicious poetry.” Clarinda Harriss hosts.
