Andrea
Shweky is a contemporary artist new to painting. However, within
the short amount of time that she’s been working with acrylic and oils,
Andrea has already proven her adaptability to a new medium, including gallery
representation, commission requests, museum exhibitions and private sales
of her work. Her vibrant interiors range from clever 1960 living
rooms complete with kitchy period pieces to her newer, more surrealistic,
close-up views of rooms layered with off-balance bottles, falling vases
and unusual perspectives that keep the viewer questioning. She began
her studies at the University of Michigan Art School
and
then went on to specialize in the Fashion Design Program at the Fashion
Institute of Technology in New York. Following college, she worked
as an Assistant Designer and Merchandise Manager for such influential designers
as Perry Ellis and Isaac Mizrahi. Since retiring from fashion to
raise her family, she felt compelled to continue with her art and take
it to the next level. Today, she lives and works as an artist and
art teacher in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Andrea’s interior pieces are
more than just painted rooms. Each item placed within the setting
compels her audience to fantasize about who would reside there. For
her more recent works, Andrea felt the need to "shake it up" by skewing
perspectives and tilting objects to keep the room "moving".
Her inspiration for these newer pieces is Paul Cézannes, THE BASKET
OF APPLES. Andrea enjoyed being startled by his moving fruit and
wanted to explore this same theme. Using predominately pencils and charcoals
all
of
her life, Andrea has successfully moved into painting, which has helped
her to grow as an artist. "Although I’ve been painting for less than two
years, I feel that I have come a long way. My paintings are becoming
more emotional because I’m feeling more comfortable with the medium.
This allows me to loosen up and bring even more of myself into my art.
I don’t know where my journey will lead me, but I’m open to all new teachings
and experiences," says the artist. Andrea’s work has been on exhibit in
the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, New Jersey selected for the Monmouth County
Arts Council19th Annual Juried Show. Her paintings are in private
collections within New Jersey and Michigan.
