TODAY'S RECIPE:
SIRNIKI

This is a fried cheese dessert from Russia.

Makes about 10 cakes

2 pounds Farmer's cheese
6 ounces Flour
6 Egg yolks
3 Tablespoons Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Salt
Butter for frying
Powdered sugar
Sour cream
Strawberry preserves

Crumble the cheese in a colander. Press until somewhat dry. Place the cheese, flour, yolks, sugar, and salt in a food processor bowl. Pulse until a dough forms. Shape into a 3-inch thick cylinder. Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Heat the butter in a skillet. Cut the dough into 3/4-inch slices. Fry on both sides until brown. Serve garnished with powdered sugar, sour cream, and preserves.

COOKING TIP:

Wooden Kitchen Utensils
Once the standard in most kitchens, wooden products are quickly being phased out. The main reason is that wood is porous and can harbor bacteria (that may cause illness). As they age, they tend to chip and split from hot water and harsh soaps. The same is true of wooden cutting boards. Stick to the new heat-resistant plastic (especially for non-stick pans) or the traditional metal varieties of spoons and spatulas.
